I inherited my fathers Apple TV and LG TV. I've lost the remote and can't add it in settings. I downloaded the apple tv remote app but, it's saying 'Make sure you are on the same Wi-Fi network as your apple tv". Therefore I'm unable to do anything without the remote.

So, then why did they make the apple tv remote app?

For convenience but unless you can get the Apple TV to connect to your network it won’t be able to connect with the app.
Which Apple TV is it?

I know that ATV4 & ATV4K can be connected to the same wifi as your iOS device by bringing them close together when powered on and ATV is connected to the TV.

Isn’t that only upon initial startup or following a factory reset?
Depending on what Apple TV it is it might be possible of connecting to a computer and resetting via iTunes.

I would start by connecting the Apple TV to your router with an Ethernet cable. That should put it on the same network by default (use the same router that your iPhone talks to).

Wired or wireless makes no difference. It just needs to be on the same network.

Doh! ‍♂️
Brilliant why didn’t I think of that, that’s the most simplest of things to do
