Missing Artwork on Ipad

I've been getting random missing Artwork on my Ipad and Iphone and I've tracked down the problem to Itunes converting my ALAC files to 256k for my devices. If I leave the files in lossless the artwork is there, if I convert its missing, on Some but not all the files, some do transfer on conversion.
