Hi everyone, I need some help,

I recently jailbroke my 3GS using greenpoison and installed Cydia. I'm using 4.1 firmware and 5.14 baseband. After installing Cydia and rebooting there is no Cydia icon on my home screen. When I try to reinstall Cydia a dialouge box appears stating Cydia is already installed. I've tried rebooting a second and third time, but haven't tried restoring and re jailbreaking. Should I?

I've searched on this forum and online for a few days now and my best lead is to install a program called ifunbox which will allow me to search in folders not normally accessible. Before I install some strange software I wanted to see if there are other options or if ifunbox even works for newer firmware?

Thanks,
David

Still nothing. I tried twice, one time after a reboot. Thanks for the idea though.

Any other ideas? From what I've read online I'm not the only one this has happened to. Although the only suggested fix I've come across is the ifunbox program to find where Cydia is hidden.

Ok.. I installed ifunbox (turned out to be a really cool program) and now have a Cydia icon (although both the loader and Cydia icon are all white), but.... when I click to open Cydia it tries to open for a split second then goes back to my home screen. I remember coming across a few threads with others having the same issue but didn't pay much attention. I plan to do more digging after work tomorrow, but hoping to get a few suggestions in the mean time.

Applejuiced - do you have any fixes for me?

Thanks

Finally got Cydia to open, but I'm now learning all my work might have been for nothing. If anyone could clarify how I can install the new ipad bb without restoring to 4.2 first I would greatly appreciate the info. Any way, back to my orginal problem, I ended up deleting two files via ifunbox named com.apple.mobile.installation.plist and cydia app. I then reinstalled cydia and after the auto respring Cydia worked.

Get the newest redsn0w and the firmware for a 3GS @ 4.1. Open redsn0w with your phone plugged in and follow instructions. You need to enable the iPad baseband. After that you should be set. Just need to install ultrasn0w and any fixes you may need. Perhaps Push Fix and T-Mobile MMS settings if you're with T-Mobile.

Thanks Erik, but I'm assuming if I restore to 4.1 and use redsnow to JB, I will loose my untethered JB. I'm also unaware where to get ahold of 4.1 firmware, since apple only has 4.2 available on itunes.

Greenpois0in fixed my 14 I was in the middle od a cydia update and got a call  and wouldn't load can't believe I forgot to download openssh. so before I sucked up and rejailbreak I tried greenpos0in. worked like a champ btw I originally jailbroke with PwnageTool

Hey David, Can you tell me how you were able to delete the file com.apple.mobile.installation.plist in ifunbox. I was able to locate cydia app and delete it when i right clicked on the file but when i did a search for com.apple.mobile.installation.plist it came up on the right side of the screen but when i right click it it doesnt give me the option to delete the file. I am having the same problem as you.

With Cydia now deleted its gone from my wall but when i go to loader it will not give me any options to load cydia again?

Fixed it for me on iPad 4.2.1 Greenpois0n

Many thanks, this deleted all the folders and restored Cydia. Only thing lost was Installous which is a small price to pay!

thanks
