Missing/deleted files

I am almost certain a file existed on an external hdd of mine and today I couldnt see/find it. I can’t recall if i might have deleted it, or if the external hdd is dying.

Is there a log of files deleted from/on a mac? I’m running the latest 10.14.

(On a side note spotlight/search/whatever is useless. I searched for a different file which i confirmed existed and it didnt show up in the search results(yes the search was on the correct volume/folder and there were no additional filters)).

I re-read my post and I’m not sure where you got that impression. I do know what the filename is/was.

If you know what the file name is, why not just do a search for it?

I'd suggest "EasyFind" -- it's small and free:

If a search doesn't turn it up, then my guess is.... it's "not there" any more.

I think you should re-read my original post. Thanks for your suggestion.
