Tonight I experienced a completely bizzare situation with a missing monitor resolution. Just going to put this out there so if anyone else runs across it they can find the solution.
I had my 2.3 DC G5 in one room and my Quad in another. I set up OSXVNC to run as a server on the DC and connected to it on the Quad using Chicken of the VNC.
In shoving the main display window over to one of my studio displays it gave me scrollbars.
No big deal. Until I restarted the DC.
Monitor was blank. Through trial and error I discovered that 1280x968 would work, but 1280x1024 would not. Blank screen. I uninstalled everything from OSXVNC even!
In thinking about it I decided to try one last step before I gave up. I connected again on the Quad (CotVNC) and changed the resolution to the missing one (1280x1024) using CotVNC. That gave me a small window on my larger display on the Quad with scrollbars. So I maximized it.
Lo and behold the monitor on the DC unblanked and I got the resolution back!
It's a completely bizzare and freaky thing which for some absurd reason holds through a reboot. So, if you ever have a problem with display resolutions and have recently used a VNC app this may be something to check.
Hopefully this might help someone out there.
