Assuming your accounts are IMAP....

1) Create a new folder in each account. Name it for the account: e.g."Account iCloud", "Account Gmail", "Account Btinternet". This will help identify the folder that contains your data.

2) Remove the account in Mail. This takes you to System Preferences > Internet Accounts. Remove the account. Don't just uncheck...remove.

3) Verify the data was removed in your User's Library > Mail > V5. See this link for steps to verify (directions are specific to Gmail. Use the folder names you created to identify the account(s) you removed.

4) With Mail quit, go to your User's Library/Containers and remove the com.apple.mail folder.
5) Restart
6) Go to System Preferences > Internet Accounts and add back your account one at a time. Checking after each to make sure it's working correctly.
