i was looking at my hard drive last night, and i'm missing about 20gig of space, and i cant seem to find whats eating it, is there any way to find out what could be taking up that kind of space?

yeah i know that you get less space than advertised, but i'm missing drive space that i used to have, i'm guessing its an imovie project that i'm just not finding... i dont know what else could eat that much space....

Try using an app like WhatSize, OmniDiskSweeper, or Disk Inventory X to look for a large temp or log file.

Download an app called Whatsize, that'll show you what is taking up all the space.

do some search, Im sure we discussed this at least 5 times before

try use OnyX to clear system cache, force clear trash, clear everything!.

You are unclear on the source of your problem, but I'll take a wild guess...

You have a "250Gb" harddrive, and you wonder why the drive says "232Gb"?

If not, did 20gb of space disappeared overnight?

no, he was talking about he had 100G 1 hour ago, and w/o doing nothing, he has only 80G left now.

actually i have an 80gb drive, and i'm only seeing 32gb i'm figuring i should have in the 50gb range of usable space, i did do a few imovie projects, but i have deleted them.

it didn't disappear over night, but i wasn't really paying attention to drive space, but i know about 4 months a go i had 52-54gb free, and now i only have 32, not the end of the world, but would like to find what is eating the space....

Install WhatSize. It will tell you exactly what's taking up the space.

yeah i'm going to do that, i was just joking back at you

i just found the offending files,
disk inventory x worked really well, it mapped out the drive and it was real easy to find the large files

Thanks!

I Love forums and search engines. Thanks to this thread and disk inventory, I found 80GB of hidden backups to delete. Hooray!:D
