Missing "Movie" icons after ios8 update on ipad5

After updating from ios7 -> ios8 I just noticed that all of the movie snapshot icons (thumbnails) are not there anymore. Instead it just shows a "film strip" in each of the big oversized rectangular thumbnails with the filename of the movies.

Is there a way to recover those icons? What may have gone wrong or what can I try to recover them? -TIA
