Missing Mute Icon

So I just updated to 4.2.1 and now when I mute my phone, the icon no longer shows up on the top bar... anyone else have the same thing?

I've never seen a mute icon on an iPhone bar. Did you jailbreak and install something that did that? Updating to 4.2 would have wiped out your jailbreak.

I agree with the others. I'm still on 4.1 and I just made a call and tested mute, and there is no indicator on the top bar.

There's never been a mute indicator on the iPhone? Maybe you're thinking of the alarm?
