Missing no sound icon?

Sorry if this has already been asked but after searching for it I can't find anything on the topic.

Switched to silence mode using the hardware button on the side of the phone and although it does work as expected there is no icon in the status bar. Is this normal?

There has never been a silent icon on the iPhone.

There has never been any icon in the status bar for something like that (in any version of iOS or iPhone OS).

Normal. There has never been a silent icon.

I'm pretty sure it has never appeared on the status bar... you might be getting confused with the Do Not Disturb moon.

No no, I've "always" had a silent icon. Like a crossed bell. I thought this was just from iOS but I guess it was a feature from IntelliscreenX or whatever.
