Missing pictures in Iphoto

There are 5 events in my iPhoto that show the thumbnails for a second, then just the dotted border. It won't show the full image, but does show the info (file name, date & time) I've got a time machine back-up, but can't find the files there...
I opened Iphoto and clicked on browse backups, It shows blank thumbnails for the pictures I'm missing.
