Missing Recovery drive

After I upgraded to El Capitan from Yosemite on both my iMac and MBP, the Recovery drive is missing. It doesn't appear in startup disks, nor does it appear in the OS chooser (hold option key on startup).

Is there any way I can get it back without a reinstall?

I'm sure your recovery partitions are still there, but neither of the methods you mentioned gets you to them. Instead, you are supposed to boot while holding down cmd-R. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314
