On the iPad (iOS 5.01) soft keyboard (US/English), there is a semicolon soft key. However, when I want to send an email, there appears to be no semicolon on that version of the keyboard. Does anybody know where to find it?
Do you have your cursor focus in the body of the email or in the To: field?
If the cursor is in the To: field, you won't see the semicolon. If you move to the body of the email, it will then appear.
I tested this on my iPhone as I don't have an iPad, but it should be the same.
Thanks! You are correct, it is only in the To: field. Wonder why...?
Probably because semi-colons can't be used in email addresses along with a lot of other characters.

Sure you can, the use is for when you wanna send email to multiple people, like:
Email@something.com; email2@something.com; email3@.... Etc.
It's been a function for ages in all email clients I've used AFAIK.
But I guess it may not be needed when you use it on an iPad or such as it understands a simple space will do the same thing thus it doesn't need to show It.

I was talking about email addresses, not email clients.
That's exactly it.
It's another example of Apple designing things down to the smallest detail: "Why offer the user keys which they will never use?". Similarly you'll notice that keys that are common in email addresses such as "." and "@" can be found without having to press on the special characters key.![]()
Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4S: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)
I could be wrong, but I think OS X's Mail.app doesn't use semicolon's to separate addresses either. Perhaps this semicolon thing is an Apple specific formatting theme.
To type an email adress into something you have to use an email client, let it be firefox, safari, mail, or some other client you are reading it literally. Ofcourse i'm talking about the email adress field.
When you manually type in more than one email address in the To: field of MSOutlook, you have to use a semicolon to separate the addresses. There are also no spaces between the addresses. Using my Yahoo email account in Internet Explorer, it works exactly the same.
Apple (on the iPad and iPhone?)uses only a space between addresses and highlights each address as you type the addresses. What is interesting is that when you hit Return or the Comma it assumes that you have finished typing the address, jumps a space and highlights what you have typed. If however you hit the spacebar, it does not recognise that you have finished typing the address and it includes the space in the address you have typed when you press Return. When you go to the subject field, a comma (and the space) automatically appears between each address in the address fields.
