Has anybody else had (and hopefully found a solution) to the issue where a minority (maybe 10%) of incoming Messages do not trigger a notification on the watch nor the iPhone? Here is a length Apple forums thread on it, with no solution. It is a bit difficult to google for this, because I keep getting discussions about not getting any notifications at all, which is a totally different thing.

I first started seeing this last year, with my iPhone 11 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 5. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Apple support last fall on it, and they had no solution. Then I bought an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and the problem went away. However now it is has started recurring again (the last month or two) on the new phone. I am guessing it started with some software update, either to the phone or watch, but I am not sure. I keep updating to the latest, but it is not going away. I guess there could be something wrong with the watch, but given that it went several months with the new phone without the issue, I tend to doubt it is hardware related.

While a message is coming through, with no notification, are you using your iPhone at the time? If so, I believe the Watch will not notify you.

No -- I am talking about messages that are coming in when the phone is locked. Eventually I look at the phone, and see the notifications on the lock screen. But they definitely did not make a sound or vibration on the watch or the phone. And they are not in the notification list on the watch.

So it seems like the phone thinks it sent them to the watch, but the watch did not actually receive them.

Got it.

As a test, a suggestion would be to re-pair the watch with the phone.
I understand that it can be a long process. Alas, you have nothing to lose, but time...

I re-paired, reset etc. many times with Apple tech support last fall. I am reluctant to go through that again.
