Missing Sync for iPhone

MarkSpace announced Missing Sync for iPhone. The Mac application provides migration and syncing tools for the iPhone.

The migration assistant provides a step-by-step utility that walks through getting your contacts, calendar and phone camera photos from your Palm, Windows Mobile or BlackBerrry devices onto your Mac and then into your iPhone.

MissingSync will also provide SMS, Call Log and Note syncing for the iPhone. The iPhone's SMS, Call Logs and Notes are not currently synced with iTunes.

The application will not be available until Q4 2007. They also offer Mac syncing solutions for Windows Mobile, Palm OS and BlackBerry.

Actually, the SMS, Call log, and Notes ARE synced w/ iTunes... If you restore your iPhone, it auto-syncs those things back onto it...

The difference is that MS will allow you to access those elements on your Mac.

This is the (as of now) answer for all those who want to be able to take whatever Notes they've typed into their phone and access them on their computer.

do you have to do anything special for that? i restored after using ifuntastic, and it did not do this for me.
and notes are integrated into leopard mail so i think there will be more syncing with that.

Same here... most of my settings, as well as SMS, notes, call logs, and I think even map searches were completely reset when I did a restore after the 1.0.1 update. Since then, I've been waiting for some app to do a better backup of settings (or for Apple to build better backup support into iTunes).

i guess missing sync figured out a way. it worked wonders for my *%#@#! windows mobile ppc.

iCal and multiple calendars

Until Leopard comes out, and I'm not holding my breath, we can't be sure what functions the iPhone will support after its post-Leopard software update . It may be that the missing sync product is no longer needed. However, if Apple's idea of syncing remains as limited as we currently have then I'd be grateful if missing sync can come to our rescue. I would love to sync multiple calendars without risking data loss. If they could add in To Do syncing as well as sorting out the Notes then I'd be very

Could be the killer app for me

I currently have a windows mobile-based phone/pda and keep lists of server configurations etc on it for work (synced with my work and home macs via missingsync 4). The lack of being able to sync externally edited notes with the iPhone has been putting me off, but if Missing Sync can handle it in the same way as it does for Windows Mobile, it looks like I might be able to make use of an iPhone after all.

If this product really serves a useful purpose for people, and works as-advertised, then great.

I just had a relatively poor experience with Missing Sync for Palm a while back, when I owned a Treo 650 phone, and I can't bring myself to give these guys any of my money now that I got an iPhone.

I tend to agree with people that considering this phone is made by *Apple*, it seems too early to decide to buy 3rd. party software to increase its ability to synchronize with parts of OS X. I'd at least wait for Leopard in October/November to see what happens.

I know on the Palm version of Missing Sync, I had all kinds of issues getting it to sync my photo library properly, and at one point, it just stopped syncing calendar info properly too. They eventually put out a number of update patches to address some of it - but things never quite worked 100% for me, even with all the updates. Wasn't impressed....

I had the same troubles...that said, my GF still uses it and has loved the ability to manage everything between her MB and Z22, something sisn't do.
But yeah, I'll wait for 10.5.

The problem seems to be that it takes a fresh backup (and replaces the old one) every time you plug the phone in, so if you've borked it, you'll get a borked backup. Not very useful, except when moving from one phone to another. What you CAN do, though, is make a backup of your "Library/Application Support/MobileSync" directory before you plug your borked phone in. Then, after doing the restore, unplug the phone before it resets, restore your backup, then sync the restored phone. It would be nice if Apple let you keep multiple backups...

I'm pretty sure that markspace software let's you choose what you want to sync and what you don't. I'm not 100% sure because I haven't tried this piece of software yet but I'm tempted.


This option would justify the app for me because you could choose to just use the markspace software to sync notes, sms, and call log only. And let iTunes do what it does best.
