Hi so I have the original Fitbit Alta and in its default mode it tracks my walking automatically and starts counting the walk steps etc (after 10 minutes of walking and includes the 10 minutes).

On current WatchOS 5 Apple s4 watch, I have to manually open the walk app and then the watch starts counting!

In the newer Watch OS 6 has this auto tracking for walking etc on s4 watch been fixed? It's quite amusing this simple Fitbit works better in tracking than the more expensive s4 watch..

Please advise. Thanks!

Unfortunately I already the "start workout reminder" and "end workout reminder" on... no use. Doesn't alert me when I walk.

The alert is for walking workout, not leisure walk. If your heart rate doesn’t go above certain threshold it wouldn’t consider you’re working out and won’t alert you. I don’t know why FitBit would alert you if you just walked leisurely. That’s not important data.

This the way my series 3 works. ‘Leisurely ‘ walking is measured via pedometer, more strenuous walking generates an alert asking if I want to start measuring.

Walks not involving actual cardio appear as Movement (Magenta ring) in AW as Calories burned and that's the main currency for doing a monthly goal.

If you want Green Ring you need to be doing something that raises your heart rate into a cardio region and this also counts for the auto start stuff for activity tracking.

Different ecosystem and different requirements, you decide for yourself which one is the most valuable default goal.

Interesting ... when I walk home after dropping off my kid at school it begins to track my walk and include the previous 10 minutes. But I am walking at a pretty brisk pace, I guess.
