I have my itunes and iphoto library on an external USB drive.

I downloaded some photos from a new camera and when I opened my iphoto library I notice that they were the only ones there. The other photos were blank. There appears to have been a new volume created on the ext drive. e.g. it appeared as "diskdrivename" 3)

Then I downloaded some files from a website and they appeared to have been written to a folder that I now can't find on the external or internal drive. they were written to "diskdrdivename 4, as though a further volume had been created. I can't find these files by searching and can't mount these other volumes, if indeed they were created.

Can anybody help.

Hi, if you open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, what does it list for that external USB drive. If there are multiple partitions, those should show up.

Have you tried the standard, eject and unplug the drive, restart the computer and try again?

I'd also go to the command line (Terminal.app works) and try

df -h

and

ls -la /Volumes/

This will give you a better sense of what's going on. (All of the info from all of these commands should be consistent.) Sometimes Finder is weird. What version of OS X are you running, by the way?

I will try

Thanks for your help so far. I will try those procedures.

Version 10.4.11

When I tried your second suggestion it came back with:

[Seventeen:~] pbg4% ls -la /Volumes/
total 40

It is the versions of Mini 3 and Mini 4 that I am chasing...

Is the plot thickening or just getting cloudier?

Thanks
