mission control showing icons

one of my desktops is showing icons only in mission control. can someone tell me how to get my windows back?

UPDATE: a restart fixed it. yeah!

I also have this problem and I'm still wondering why a restart fixes it. I also looked at a Apple Discussions post on this same issue and it does not have an answer.
