There is a misterious jack around the headphone jack in the iBooks.
What is it for? Someone has an idea?

Video out port, used to mirror the iBook screen onto an external VGA-compatible moniter. The iBook comes with the VGA dongle that connects to that port.

remote control (a la iPod audio jack)?

What model iBook did you see this "mysterious" jack on? My 500mhz iBook has a little external reset button located to the top and right of the headphone jack. Could this be what you're speaking of?

I think this as already been discussed before, but the mysterious port surrounds the audio out port only on the April 2002 and later iBooks and PowerBooks, but I don't recall seeing it on the recently released PowerBooks. MOSR once claimed it as a possible digital input for future DLD's, though.

Can't add much, but I have an original iPod and an 800Combo 12" iBook. Both have the same connector for audio out, but the remote does nothing(that I could find) when plugged into the iBook.
