I’m planning to upgrade the RAM in my MacBook Pro 2012 model, and I have a question regarding mixing different RAM modules.

Is it possible to mix different RAM modules in a MacBook Pro 2012? Are there any compatibility issues or potential problems I should be aware of?

I included a picture of the two ram sticks.

Thank you for your help!

If I remember correctly, dual channel may not work as the sticks are different speeds, but both sticks will work perfectly fine.

Note that since 1 stick is 1600MHz (PC3-12800) and the other is 1333MHz (PC3-10600), both sticks will run at 1333MHz as the computer downclocks the higher speed stick to match the lower speed.

I personally ran 12GB (8GB 1600MHz + 4GB 1333MHz) in a 2011 MBP at one point, worked perfectly fine.
