mixed matched monitors (calibration and color)

If you have 2 different kinds of monitors how do you set them up so the colors , contrast, hue, and etc look near the same?

I can get mine fairly close but the System Preferences monitor calibration thing makes you start over from scratch to just make minor changes. So I can't get just right.

Anyone have any luck having mixed matched monitors?

Any tips or easy ways to do this?
