Hi,
I accidently reversed the power plugs between a Pioneer/OWC 109b firewire DVD burner and a Iomega CD burner.

Both transformers had the same model numbers but different pin outs. I sent 5+ volts into the DVD ground. Pioneer DVD drive stopped working completely.

Any idea if I need a new DVD player or a firewire/usb external box. I couldn't find a fuse or any obvious circuit burning or damage.

I might take out the drive and replace my super drive/Pioneer 111-D, but I'm slightly afraid putting a drive subjected to incorrect wiring in my computer could create even more problems. ANy easy way to trouble shoot? I was thinking of getting one of those $25 USB to bare drive adapter connectors and bypass the Fire Wire board in the external DVD player.

I miss having 2 DVD drives, and I'll make sure in the future to clearly mark every power cord so I don't ruin more equipment.

Labeling the plug end of equipment is common procedure in laboratories, or anywhere around expensive equipment that get moved around, where even plugs that mate, can have incompatible wiring or voltages and damage very expensive equipment. Much of the equipment comes with a tag to attach at the plug ends of new equipment. I'll have to start doing this around my Mac peripherals.

Thanks,
Greenjeens
