Hi,

so i have a mid 2010 macbook pro 13" with 4gb of ram.
i was wondering is there any reason i shouldn't buy an 8gb chip instead of 2 4gb ones, it cost the same for 1 8 or 2 4s.

If i buy one 8gb i could take out the one of my ram modules put in the 8gb and have 10 gb

Not sure if Mac's are the same as PC's but you would loose the dual channel memory config and it would run as a single channel. Either go for 2x4gb or 2x8gb
