I have several .MKV files and the VLC icon on them says, "blank." On .AVI files, it says AVI. The .MKV files play normally, but I am curious as to why it says that. Is there some small error in the file that would cause it to say that but still allow it to play normally?

VLC doesn't have a special icon for MKV files that says "MKV. The default for supported formats without a custom icon is "Blank".
