I have been using mkv2vob to convert MKV files and to split them into 4 gb parts which I then copy onto my PS3. I have a large hard drive installed in my PS3 and use it as a media player.

Today I converted a movie but it wouldn't play on my PS3. The only thing that has changed since I last used mkv2vob is that I installed Mavericks, and I thought perhaps mkv2vob has issues with Maverick?.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest an alternative application that would allow me to convert MKV files into either AVI or MPG and also provide me with the option to split video files into 4 gb parts so that I can then add these to my Playstation 3.

Thanks :)

Try PS3Muxer
http://ps3muxer.org/
it does a great job, and is pretty quick.

but you know the PS3 can play video files larger then 4GB, I play 15GB files without problems, and stream or transfer these from my NAS to the PS3

Thanks very much for the help, appreciate it.

I did not know that the PS3 can play video files larger than 4gb. Not sure why I thought there was a 4gb limit, perhaps earlier software on the PS3 had this limitation.

Do you know if PS3muxer is compatible with Mavericks?

I'm using Mavericks, and works without any problems.
it converts the MKV to M2ts file, and the PS3 plays it perfectly.

I also use Subler, it is faster then ps3Muxer, but cant convert DTS sound,
and it converts to MP4, so you can import it into iTunes.

the 4GB limit is only when you have an external HD attached, as it needs to be FAT 32 formatted, and that causes the 4GB limit.

Glad to see ps3muxer is compatible with Mavericks.

When I transfer video files over to my PS3, I use either a 64GB usb thumb drive or a external hard drive. So I would need to still split the files into 4GB parts, can ps3muxer split the video file into 4GB parts?

Just installed ps3muxer now and I can see its possible to split files.

PS3Muxer is excellent, it splits the files into the 4GB Fat 32 limit, it's extremely quick (it converted and split a 9GB MKV in just under 3 minutes) and the quality is outstanding.

Thanks for the recommendation :)
