I recently updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 on AT&T. Just prior, I received an MMS message from a friend on TMobile Samsung Galaxy. After, I was not able to receive any images from him. I received the following error message:
One or more of the messaging components have been deleted by MMS Adaptation. Either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your handset.
I figured it wasn't a size issue since I had received images from this person before. And most devices compress images to ensure proper delivery via MMS protocol. So, I thought it was related to the iOS 8 update.
I searched online and found several forums dating back to 2009 and also showed that this was NOT exclusive to iOS 8, iPhone 5 nor AT&T. Other devices, Android and Blackberry, including other carriers also prompt this message.
I did find some potential solutions and another that worked for me I wanted to share since I didn't see anything totally concrete around this.
Some potential solutions were:
Trouble Shooting
So, when I called, I walked through the typical trouble shooting steps:
Settings>Messages
Reset Network Settings
Before you do this, make sure you have your network passwords ready to reconnect to your wifi networks and expect to re-pair your device with other bluetooth devices.
Phone should power cycle off/on. When it comes on again, Airplane mode should be in off position again, but if not, then turn it off. Reconnect to your networks. And it should work!
Hope this helps!

Some potential solutions were:
- Power off/on your phone (did not work for me)
- Call your carrier and have them do something with your account, but when I called they couldn't do anything on their end really.
- Restore your iPhone (I wanted to hold off on this as a last resort since it can take a couple of hours - always back-up first!)
Trouble Shooting
So, when I called, I walked through the typical trouble shooting steps:
Settings>Messages
- iMessages: ON (although not my issue)
- Send as MMS: ON
- Send & Receive (has a phone# associated with it)
- MMS Messaging: ON
Reset Network Settings
Before you do this, make sure you have your network passwords ready to reconnect to your wifi networks and expect to re-pair your device with other bluetooth devices.
- Turn On Airplane Mode
- General>Reset
- Choose "Reset Network Settings"
