mobile me wont let me sign in using apple ID

I am using iOS 4.2.1 and want to enable the free find my iPhone feature on it. On the help page it says to add an account which and for username and password I can use my apple ID. It does authenticate me but after logging on it says I cant use that apple ID, use a different ID.

Plz help
