If you have a MacBook or a Macbook Air

And you do not have a Time Machine back up Plugged in

a new feature in lion backups up all data to a secure folder on you hard drive taking up mass amounts of space from your computer

I mean its a good feature if you are on the go but within a few days it took up over 30Gbs of space on my computer without me knowing

if you like this feature then so on to remove this feature open terminal

and type this command in

" sudo tmutil disablelocal "

and within a few minutes the folder will be removed
and you will regain space back into your hd

I KNOW ITS NO problem

Just so that you all know, Lion does periodically combine and or delete these backups. I left mine growing since I saw no need to save the space and after about two weeks the size of the backups in about my mac dropped from about 60 gb to 2 or something like that. I have yet to really look into time machine and see what happened according to the sidebar of the interface but I assume that it consolidated into two weekly snapshots. I assume that as time goes on those will also be deleted so there really isn't any need to disable local snapshots unless you're really running out of disk space and you need it right this minute.
