Hello Guys,

I was pretty amazed by MobileMe and it's slick web interface. So I signed up for the 2 month trial and I have uploaded my contacts and calendar to MobileMe from my Mac. My iPhone is unlocked, so I can't update to 2.0 yet, and I cannot buy a 3G iPhone before August 5th 2008, since I'm not in the United States. I have some questions as to home MobileMe push works.

I was under the impression that MobileMe works with existing email accounts like Gmail or my university mail. I found out to my dismay, that it will not work with other email accounts.

It is pretty sad that it will not work with my university account. Is there was workaround to this? It does allow checking email from an external POP account, but it seems very primitive and poorly implemented at best.

So then, here's how things work ...

1) Anything I do on www.me.com, gets pushed to my iPhone and Mac.
2) And anything I do on any of the other devices gets pushed to the other two.

But it will only push the me.com email, contacts and calendars.

My question then, is why would someone pay $99/year for this service. There's simply no incentive for new users to sign up. Gmail also has more storage for email and is free.

Someone can use zyb.com for storing contacts. Sync their iPhone once a day on the computers to update calendars. And simply use Wifi to get their email on the go.

I cannot imagine someone switching to me.com just to use the snazzy interface and push functionality.
