So last night, I decided it was a good time to backup my user files and install a fresh OS X Leopard.

Needless to say, I now have a happy happier Macbook but I was very curious: during the initial setup I was offered a MobileMe startup trial...I figured that I would get a .mac trial offer, but my OS X Leopard disc is pre-MobileMe... is this MobileMe offer pushed from Apple servers when setup is initiated?

I was connected to WiFi so that I could finish the registration process at initial setup without having to use "send regestration" on the first startup.

Yes, the .Mac/MobileMe offer that is displayed during Mac OS X installation is pushed from the server (I believe it is only displayed if you have an active internet connection at the time, otherwise you are instructed to run the Setup Assistant later when connected to send the information).

I got it on a Tiger reinstall. Obviously pushed from Apple's servers.
