Mockup of 13" MBP with optibay replaced by larger battery and dedicated GPU

I made a mockup of what the MBP 13" would be like if Apple ditched the superdrive, used a bigger battery, and added a dedicated GPU:

(actual) 2010 MBP 13"

(mockup) 2011 MBP 13"

I figure the larger battery would add another 5 hours to the current 10 hour battery life, totaling about 15 hours, although that could change with the addition of the more powerful GPU.

Keep in mind the 13" battery weighs around 2lb I believe, so that would bump the 13" into 5lb territory which is pretty bad for a 13" - even the 4.5 is pretty high.

But yeah, it'd be nice!

The battery weighs 2 pounds? HAHA, what kinda crack are you smoking? It's 1 lb SHIP weight, meaning the battery weighs about 2/3 of a lb and the box and packaging adds 1/3 of a pound.

Not an insult, just not sure why you'd spend time doing something that Apple pays people to do for them. Guess same reason people play role-playing games, living life vicariously through someone they'll never be.

I googled for the 2009 battery weight and came up with 2lbs, shrug. Maybe they gave me the 2008 weight, or the shipping weight like said. Not too concerned.

Yeah prolly shipping weight best places to check is Amazon as their shipping weights are usually super accurate... when I sell stuff on ebay and want to get shipping weight for an item I'm sending I use their measurements, hehe.

I think the only way the superdrive will ever be removed is if it is replaced by a space for an SSD+HDD

Either way they will make people unhappy. I personally wish they would remove the optical drive, I have no use for one.

They should make it BTO as their custom configs are not really BTO, just basic ass upgrades. Everybody would be happy then...except apple! and thats that counts right!

You'd require a 2nd fan to cool a dedicated GPU. This mockup is interesting however it seems unlikely. However, if you were not to increase the battery size, it would seem very likely for a dedicated GPU.
