I ran into this picture from my past Facebook Feed. It's an old mockup of an "iPhone M1" showing a non-symmetrical inverted notch. The design kind of makes sense given you can put the selfie camera and sensors in the notch and keep the screen unobstructed. The only thing with this exact design is the selfie camera would be off centre, but you could always extend the inverted notch over to the centre.

It might be smarter to make the left side as tall as the right. Then Apple could fit the cameras into the space between them...

This almost seems like a bezel, but they just cut part of it off. If it was up to me there either would be a bezel on top where the camera didn’t interfere with the screen or completely remove the selfie camera Face ID system. I honestly don’t see how having the camera cutting into the screen is better than having 2 mm extra height on the iPhone.

Also everyone loves Apple’s version of the android Swiss cheese camera hole, but it’s actually cutting lower into the screen than the notch. All Apple did was move the notch further down on the screen to the point where there was screen above the notch. The notch was less intrusive, but I think Apple was feeling pressure to make a change.

I was thinking that too. Why not just increase the height of the phone to create a dedicated dynamic island on top and leave the screen unobstructed. You could maybe fit a fingerprint sensor in there. I’d prefer this much more than the notch or pill.
