I've got a JVC HDD camcorder and the videos files have been recorded as a .MOD file. Any idea what this is?

It's an MPEG 2 file. To use them in iMovie, try MPEG Streamclip (www.squared5.com). I've used it on .mod files from a JVC camcorder with great success. Basically it will convert the .mod file into something more useable (including .dv)

You can literally change the .mod to .mpg and it will work in your video program. There is a whole topic on this conversation at this forum:
