I love the minimalistic aluminum look of my 12 inch g4 1.5ghtz powerbook. I have already loaded it up with all the ram it can carry and it has been a workhorse for the last 4 years...taking it on all my trips and watching my own stored movies on coach. It does everything well (except for the region fee problem with the matsushita drive.)
It is old now (3 years is like 48 years in human terms - One computer = 12 Human years). It means it can old but still can show the young ones a thing or two. The aesthetics are better than any other notebook available but it needs some internal work to bring it back to speed. I do not want another notebook. I want to mod this one. Specifically, replace the athlon g4 chip with a core2duo. I understand this will need a motherboard change. I also want to remove the 80 gig hard drive and replace it with a 64ssd. Some other mods I want to see done:
1. Replace wireless g with n.
2. replace superdrive with any other one.
3. Increase the base ram.
4. Add a firewire 800 slot.
Has anyone tried anything like this? I think the SSD hack has been done. I might be able take the core2duo from a mini and use it as the motherboard.
Curious if anyone see an issue that have done this or knows if this is impossible.
