Hi all,

Recently purchased an in ca holder for my iPhone 3G, the griffin windowseat, and i am very impressed with it.....

...but since using this I have found a coupe of things that can be distracting when using the phone while driving.

1. When answering the phone when the keypad is locked you have to slide, this can be difficult when driving.

and 2. Switching it to speaker, admittedly easier than swiping but all the same something else that needs to be done and needs you to take ur eyes off the road even for a split second.

These two manoeuvres could potentially distract enough to cause an accident and so iw onder if there is a possibility of suggesting that apple add a new mode to the iphone, like airplane mode, called car mode.

In this mode the iphone would offer the answer call button like when a call comes in when the screen isnt locked, even if the screen is locked.

Also this mode could enable the call to be transferred to speaker automatically.......

Just a thought... anyone agree with these suggestions?

Not a bad idea, but I don't think it's really necessary for car use. The reason is that answering calls with most bluetooth headsets or the included headphone/microphone require only a simple button push on the earpiece or headphones without touching the phone itself. You shouldn't be fiddling with the phone itself in the car (indeed it is illegal to do so in California).

That is true, but not everyone uses bluetooth as an in car solution.....

Just as not many will use the Airplane mode, at least not as often that they drive....

The point of the cradles designed for window mounting is so you only minimally have to touch the phone, like to hit answer.... if even at all. Yes bluetooth accessories make this easier but for those who dont want the hassle or battery loss of turning bluetooth on and off whenever in the car, this would be a reasonable solution, less hassle than connecting to your bluetooth accessory just Setting>Mode>Car....

Anyway thank for your input hopefully we will get more input from the masses

You'll have a better chance of being heard by Apple if you leave your suggestion at the iPhone feedback page on the Apple web site.

Here's a thought: be a better driver and don't use your phone while you're driving. Whether you're using handsfree or not, talking on the phone while driving increases your risk of being in an accident.

Don't do it. Cell phones have voicemail for a reason.

Well put.

It is exceedingly unlikely that anything you are doing is important enough to justify risking the lives of others by using your phone while driving.
