Does anyone know if when apple changes operating systems, do they change the model numbers for their Macs?

Currently they have the MC975LL/A listed as their base model Retina MacBook Pro, and i'm going to try and BTO a Mac through a retailer and wanted to specify for it to come with Mountain Lion when it launches.

With a new Model Number it would be easier to specify for the Mountain Lion version to ship...

No. The model numbers don't change. Apple just installs a newer version of OS X on it.

You can upgrade to Mountain Lion for free. Why does it need to come with it?

I just hate the idea of "upgrades" and by waiting for mountain lion i would most likely get a machine that was built later... I guess I could always clean install, just figured out how to do that.. But it's just ideas bouncing around
