I currently use an old Netgear Modem/Router for my wireless internet.
I decided to upgrade to an Airport Extreme and bought a refurbished 2011 model from the apple store, because the wireless part of my router is starting to fail. It sometimes does not emit any wireless signal though all wired functions seem to be working just fine.
My question is
Does it matter if the modem has a gigabit ethernet port or a pre-gigabit "Fast Ethernet" port?
My current modem seems to not have a gigabit and only a 10/100 port.
Since the WAN port on the APE is a gigabit ethernet port would there be a big enough speed increase if you upgrade to a modem capable of gigabit ethernet?

The modem will only act as a gateway to the internet, so as long as your internet connection isn't faster than 100 Mbps it won't make any difference :)
