Have a usb 56k modem, works in xp via bootcamp.

Doesn't work in osx.

In threoy would it be possible to run a windows installation in a VM (possibly win98/2000) xp takes to much space.

and then use sharing to get osx on the internet? (i only use the usb modem rarely where no other connection meathord exists)

Your post is a little short on details. Are you saying that you tried setting the modem up under Preferences > Network > Modem and none of the built-in drivers work?

There isn't a modem there ;)

it was a cheapo Usb modem , its probably a winmodem.

As far as I know, you can't connect to a network with a virtual machine and then share the connection across to the host machine, but I could be wrong. What model modem is it? :)
