I have to get a newer modem in order to bump up my Spectrum data speeds and would prefer not to pay for Spectrum's modem.

Any suggestions?
Thank you

I have Spectrum and they don't charge for cable modems any longer. Just go down to the Spectrum office and take whatever they give you. If you can, ask for one of the newer DOCSIS 3 modems they have.

Thanks for that info.

Damn - I'm old. I read the thread title and these images popped into my head.

I am looking for recommendations, need at least 2 ethernet ports. Good and bad reviews on Arris models so I'm hoping to hear from someone who can add their user comments.
Thanks

I use the Motorola MG8702 and absolutely love it. Definitely worth it in every way...super fast and reliable.

I purchased a (refurbished, if I recall) ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 a few years ago. It's inexpensive, and I've had really good performance. I believe any glitches I've had in the past 2–3 years have been Spectrum outages, not problems with my modem. I have Spectrum, with service is now up to 200mbps. I use with an AirPort Extreme that I hope lasts forever, since I can't replace it.

IF you don't have enough ethernet ports on the residential gateway (modem/router), then you can buy a cheap "ethernet switch" to extend the number of ports. These cost only around $15-20.

These usually come with 4 additional ports, sometimes 5 or 8.
No software or setup is needed, you just plug things in and it works.

Set it up like this:
residential gateway --> ethernet switch --> all your ethernet cables.

Thank you so much for that recommendation.

Thank you. I want to bump up to 200mpbs and tried to until the Spectrum tech folks told me my personally owned ARRIS modem was not capable of it. They mumbled something about my going to their office but I see TV ads saying you can get a free modem with a year long plan. That is why I want to purchase my own modem.

That modem is overkill for 200mbps internet, however, it is a DOCSIS 3.1 modem so it will keep you updated for a quite a while so I would still get it.

I like the Beam-Forming and PowerBoost features, along with it being just a solid modem/router. I never have any issues with it and when it is your own modem, you can obviously tinker quite a bit more with the settings when you log into the modem. Definitely will not let you down, that is for sure!
