Hello all-
Last week, I sent my old iBook (G4, from Sept 2005) in for repairs; the fan had been giving me trouble, and the drop sensor was way too sensitive. They replaced the fan, the motherboard, and I believe the hard drive sensor.
Anyway, since I got it back, none of the modern internet apps on my computer run. Firefox 3 crashes the moment it's started, before the window even appears; Firefox 2 runs for perhaps 30 seconds then does the same. Safari similarly fails, as does Opera. Even Software Update and Realplayer crash.
I managed to get SeaMonkey to run reasonably consistently, with only occasional crashes, and I booted OS 9 to use IE to download Firefox 2, and IE appeared to work. I'm running 10.4.11.
I've tried the usual things: deleting preferences, clearing out plugins, reinstalling, using another account. Nothing worked. I spent about an hour and a half on the phone with Apple, trying to get it fixed; they're having me reinstall OSX.
Until I have access to the install disk, is there anything else I should try?
Thank you.
