Is it possible to change the behaviour of a Mac printer driver by editing the PPD file?
We use a piece of software called PaperCut to monitor and charge for print jobs at our organisation, but it is unable to interpret the Samsung printer language QPDL, which means that if a user prints to a Samsung printer, they are charged full price even if they used grayscale or duplex printing.
The printers in question are Samsung CLP-680ND, the driver we are using is http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...CLP-680_Series_Mac_PrinterDriver_V5.01.01.zip.
I was wondering if it would be possible to edit the PPD to make it output PostScript (which PaperCut can understand)? I tried experimenting with this myself but wasn't able to get it to work, just wondering if I missed something.
I already tried asking Samsung and PaperCut, neither of them have been able to come up with a solution.
The Generic PostScript Driver can't be used because end-users need access to all the printer options including things like grayscale and duplex. The Generic PCL Driver can't be used as it is limited to grayscale.
