I picked up Asus SBC-06D2X-U BD/DVD Combo drive earlier today.
Mojave wouldn't even pick up the drive in Disk Utility.
Looks like I may have to return this drive. What a waste of my time.
Anyone else have this issue?

Did you insert a CD or DVD in the drive, first?

Even without a disc loaded, you should see your connected device in System Information under SATA or USB, depending on your connection:

I don't want to insult you, but...

... Have you clicked on the desktop to bring the finder forward, and then
... Gone to finder/preferences/general and
... Put a check into the box CDs, DVDs, and iPods

????

Good point. By the way, my iMacs do not show a DVD/CD drive on the desktop unless I insert a CD or DVD in it. Without a DVD or CD in the DVD placer, to the computer it is similar to connecting a USB cable that has not device attached to the other end.

That's the way it's supposed to work on Macs.
Every Mac I've ever used with a DVD/CD drive (whether internal or external) works exactly the same.

The "drive" doesn't show on the desktop.
If you put a disc into it (a "volume") -- THAT mounts and displays on the desktop.

:) That's what I thought when the OP asked.

I solved the issue. The first disc I used was bad. Inserted another disc, recognized right away.
Sorry for the delay :)
