Hi all,

I'm having trouble with migrating a operator's 2011 data to outlook 2016.
His mailbox is pretty big and needed to clear 42GB
So I moved 72GB of his stuff to his external drive but all space ended up as purgeable storage.

I tried the dd solution to fill up his drive, while it worked the first time (filling up the disk) after deleting the files it dd not removed the purgeable storage, after a reboot ending up with a folder of TB's big which did not take actual storage at all.

I got lost and reinstalled outlook 2011.....

Anyone has a clue how I can force clear or even disable the purgeable storage?

Thanks!

Purgeable storage is often, but not always, Time Machine local snapshots (I just learned that Mac OS creates these local snapshots whether you like it or not, unless you disable that).

This article tells you how to delete these local snapshots. I just did this (for just the reason you did). I had to reboot in order for the Finder to correctly update the available space (showing almost no purgeable storage).

You could also consult this for an app that does this without Terminal.
