Does anyone know what the deal is this this drive? Amazon shows "not yet released"; Newegg keeps pushing their ETA date out day by day, and others don't even list it. Newegg has 5 reviews for the drive, though.

Has anyone got the inside scoop on when these things will truly become available? I'm trying to hold off bootcamping my new MBP until I can upgrade the HD; the process of cloning a drive with OS X and Win 7 on it looks to be a 2 step process I was hoping to avoid.

If you have some good info/rumors, please share. Thanks.

I'm not sure about Amazon but it's definitely released. Some people have posted benchmarks for them. Newegg's stock sold out within a day if I'm correct and I dunno when they're getting their next shipment.
 
I ordered mine from Newegg, on the 24th, on the release date. They probably weren't expecting to have this many orders for them on launch.
 
That HDD has me really interested. Dunno what I'd put it in... but something tells me a shiny new notebook computer is in order.
 
Purchased mine from NCIX.com on May 31st.
Picked it up at the local store

Momentus XT 500gb. seems noisier than the original Seagate 500gb, 7200 rpm. from Apple
Just my observation, I can hear the disk spinning
It does seem very quick at start up & shut down
I haven't run any heavy load test on it yet, but I will report back once I do
So far I'm quite pleased with it
I'm sure the price will drop a bit once it's readily available
I think I paid a premium for mine, because I've seen them advertised for $20 dollars less

I'm also toying with the idea of placing two of these in raid format on my Mac Pro tower ?

Been using it for almost a day now. I upgraded from the stock 5400rpm drive and the noise difference is almost non-existent. It's obvious when it spins down but when it's in operation I keep thinking the noise is coming from the fans instead.
 
Order Placed!

I'm a happy camper right now.

Got my "auto-notify" e-mail from Newegg a while ago. Logged on and was able to place my order for the drive. Got the order confirmation shortly thereafter. Hopefully, it will be here Monday.

I don't think their stock lasts very long. I got the text, logged on within minutes and placed my order. When I checked back about 30 minutes later, there was no stock and the Auto-Notify button was back up.

I think Newegg is now going to be one of my preferred vendors for computer related equipment.
