Mom's Old VZW Chocolate phone having trouble texting my iphone 4?

Hi all,

I wonder if any of you have experienced this?

My mother's old VZW Chocolate is having trouble texting my iphone.
When she texts me, I receive it as a bunch of crazy symbols jumbled together. I can't figure out what the problem could be?

Any ideas?

Are you using a VZW iPhone? I didn't want to assume.

Has your mom tried resetting her phone and seeing if that helps?

I am using a VZW iPhone.
I asked her to restart her phone, to no avail.

Hers is literally the only phone that is doing that, which is an issue as I talk to her through texting quite a bit.

I think the next time I make it home, I will take her to the VZW store and see if they can figure anything out.
