Monitor advice please - good text quality

I'm trying to replace an old plasma screen with a nice new 24 inch lcd, and have bought an HP 2475w. It's fantastic in almost every way - build, colour, adjustability, inputs - except the one thing I want most, which is sharp, focused text. It's far too blurry and makes me feel my eyes are out of focus, so I'm returning it and it's being picked up on Monday.

So - what should I get? The HP is over £400 and this is about my max price point - I'm very disappointed to be returning it and want another model as soon as possible.

I'm using it on a Mac Mini and a G5.
