Monitor choice and configuration

Looking for an odd config

I have:
2009 MBP
Work Intel PC with VGA (may be getting one with DVI or HDMI)
iPad 3
In Future another MBP Aug 2011 or newer

I would like

Either
One better than 1920 X monitor (i.e. Thunderbolt Monitor)
Two 1920 Monitors

I haven't found a combination that works. Looking for any help folks can give.
