Hello - I'm looking for advice on a new monitor for a dual set up with a 2015 MBP/remote desktop scenario. I do legal work and with aging eyes, text quality is my priority.
I'm running a mid-2015 MBP (Retina, 15-inch, High Sierra 10.13.6) in clamshell mode with an old (2010 I think) Dell UltraSharp 2711 Ultrasharp external monitor (connector in pic, under power connector). Resolution is 2560x1440. Honestly, no complaints. Because I'm now working at home permanently, I'd like to invest in a new, larger monitor to run my remote desktop, which connects to a Dell laptop running Windows in my "real" office. I'd use my Dell monitor as a dual monitor, if I can figure out how to do that connector wise, if it's possible given the age of my laptop/monitor.
I've not had any issues with my MPB overheating in clamshell mode. If I have to replace it at some point, I would probably stick with a laptop to keep the portability.
I gather from all the threads I've read that I should go with 4K, but would welcome any suggestions. I don't know if text quality is soley the product of my home system or influenced by my remote desktop? I've never used a dual-monitor set up but I think that would be great for my purposes - remote desktop on main monitor and research, etc. on other monitor.
Thank you for any help you can provide, among the many "help me pick a monitor" threads.
