Monitor off (iMac)

I'm new so i don't know how to turn the iMac monitor off so i can sleep at night! but the reason i dont want it in sleep mode or off is because of the downloads!

How do i do it?

in the System Preferences application click Energy Saver and then set at time period for when you display will turn off.

in Mac OS X 10.5 theres a new keyboard shortcut which turns off your display which is "command+shift+eject". i thought youd like this one a lot better .

I've setup a hot corner, so if I put the mouse pointer in the bottom left, it sleeps the display straight away.
