Ok I have my retina macbook pro connect via mini display port to the display port in on a dell 2713h, this works fine

I want to get another monitor most likely with a display port or a hdmi connection. I've noticed on my dell 2713h there is a display port out connection.

Can I connect a cable from this directly to another monitor? And will it allow me to extend display via the mac...

Thanks

I don't believe OS X (including Yosemite) allows for daisy-chaining using DisplayPort. I believe daisy-chaining only works with Apple Thunderbolt displays. This is a limitation with OS X/drivers. Before I found out about this limitation, I did try it myself, but obviously I couldn't get it to work.
